What is the role of art in this society? How can we use art, not only to comment upon the problems, but to try to resolve some of the problems that we face as a society? As social being we have a duty to actively influence our surroundings, not just comment and criticize it. As artist we can use our creativity to present problems and solutions in ways that most people can not or will not attempt. Still, how does one tackle this issue as an artist, or more importantly, as creative thinkers? This is the question that consumes most of my artistic endeavors at this point in time.
Out of all the social problems we face today, education and the lack of efficient educational tools interest me the most. How can we communicate our ideas to the public, if the public can not extract those ideas from the artwork? Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge”. Why? Because, imagination allows us to picture thing in different ways, to think outside the box and to find creative solutions to problems. Without this ability knowledge and facts, serve only to confine our mind, not to liberate it. Those that can not imagine something better will not fight for it, in this way they become easier to please and to control.
This is the problem with our current educational systems. They do not teach you how to think, how to extract information or how to use it. All they do is teach you how to fallow instructions and how to perform certain cognitive tasks without understanding what they can be used for. In this way, the system is creating an ignorant mass of people that only know how to do what they are told, and no efficient or just social system can function this way.
